About SIM Otolaryngology

otolaryngology_240The Boston Children’s Hospital Department of Otolaryngology has innovated around surgical simulation for over 7 years.

Beginning with a broad experience in team training at the Center for Medical Simulation, the Department has explored and perfected the use of on-site simulation to leverage full native team training in native environments to improve performance at the level of the individual, team and systems in which we work. Under the direction of Dr. Mark Volk, the ORL Team Training Course has become the first staple team training program for patient safety in BCH surgery and formed the basis of the BCHSP CRICO OR Team Training programs – currently occurring in 6 subspecialties.  The Department has built on these efforts by delivering the courses both nationally and internationally as well as creating international ORL Boot Camps for trainees.
