SIMPeds, in collaboration with Children’s Heartlink and the Heart Center at BCH , recently returned from a training visit to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India (PGIMER). During this weeklong visit, we focused on hands-on simulation training with the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery teams, both in the operating theatre and on the intensive care unit. With the use of high-fidelity simulation, we coached both groups on effective communication between care teams and a “thinking out loud” dynamic during crisis situations. The big milestone of the week was performing the first cardiac operating theatre simulation at PGIMER. This simulation scenario assembled a large crowd of participants and observers alike and many offered their thoughts and views on how communication occurs during adverse events.
