Neonatal Resuscitation Program is recommended for all multidisciplinary health care providers caring for neonates in the delivery room, emergency room, newborn nursery, special care nursery, neonatal intensive care unit and prehospital settings. Resuscitation guidelines are evidenced based and revised by the NRP Steering Committee. The 7th NRP edition focuses on multidisciplinary team training utilizing simulation and debriefing. Through application of adult learning principles to multidisciplinary specific educational objectives, NRP focuses on teamwork to develop clearly defined and coordinated roles for an effective neonatal resuscitation.

Certification is required every two years.

  • Demonstrate intubation +/or assistance with intubation and alternative methods of establishing an effective airway

  • Establish and demonstrate appropriate use of umbilical venous access and Intraosseous access
  • Coordinate positive pressure ventilation (PPV) with bag/mask and chest compression using correct rate and depth
  • Using revised guidelines, perform effective resuscitation of the neonate with meconium stained amniotic fluid
  • Demonstrate needle aspiration of pneumothorax
  • Coordinate resuscitative measures for the preterm neonate
  • Discuss measures for post resuscitative care of the neonate
