Auckland 295x265

SIMPeds is proud to be partnering with the Starship Simulation Program (SSP) in Auckland, New Zealand to develop a pediatric simulation center of excellence. The formal partnership began in February of 2011 to develop the first hospital-based comprehensive on-site simulator program in New Zealand.

The Starship Simulation Program delivers a wide range of simulation based training aimed at optimizing patient outcomes and safety via multidisciplinary team training, skills training, staff development and latent threat analysis. The program has had a strong emphasis on simulation instructor development, building a strong belief that simulation is an educational approach rather than a technology.

The program focuses on in-situ training using multidisciplinary team training using high fidelity simulation. Active high fidelity multidisciplinary crisis resource management programs at Starship Hospital include Paediatric ICU, Neonatology, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Paediatric Oncology, Paediatric Operating Theatres, Paediatric Cardiology and Paediatric ECMO. The program also includes a range of other simulation based education programs including ongoing resident, doctor, fellow, and nursing orientations. The vast majority of this training is delivered in-situ.

SSP has also assisted with instructor training and the development of simulation programs in other hospitals in New Zealand. The SSP team is able to assist with further instructor training or outreach support for interested individuals or organizations.
